Making Movies

If you’re on this page, you are likely one of our 3 producers: Akira Simone, Val Patel, or Sasha Pierce.

To make your next movie, you need:

  • A Producer: Akira Simone, Val Patel, and Sasha Pierce are our 3 producers present
  • A Director. You can either use an established director or you could risk trying an unknown
  • Actors: You need at least three actors
  • Other crew: You may sign up other people as stunt-coordinators, directors of photography, caterers, or whatever you feel you need
  • Total number of people involved: You must have at least five people involved in your movie, and no more than eight
  • A screenplay: A screenplay from an established screenwriter would be best
  • A name: Screenwriters often name their screenplays, but that’s nothing you can’t change if you wanted to
  • A plot: A brief description of the plot would be useful
  • Money: You need at least $100,000 “seed” money to start off your film. Investments will follow, but only if you have the $100,000 to start the ball rolling
  • Movie Bonus Cards: A few people may have Movie Bonus Cards – they will help make your movie more successful

You need at least five people to make a movie – a producer, director, at least one actor and two other people (who may be actors or other crew). You can’t use an actor or director (or producer!) who is working on another movie – but you can use as many other people (as bit parts, crew, assistants and so on – they can help you with the performance described below).

Making Successful Movies

Making a movie and making a successful movie are two different things. The success of the movie will be judged by the number of Movie Bonus cards that it has – and then it goes in front of it audience (the other characters at Collingwood Hotel). At the end of the evening, the cast and crew must “perform” (act out) one scene (no more than a couple of minutes long) from the movie in front of everyone. Then, when all the scenes have been “screened” the voting will take place and the awards will be made.

Everyone in the after party can vote for their favorite movie and their favorite actor – and they cast their votes according to which movie they enjoyed the most. Votes and movie bonuses are then totaled and the movie with the highest score wins the coveted Best Picture award (and wins the attention of investors who will want to fun your movie)!

Hints for making a great scene:

  • Introduce you movie – in particular, announce the title, director, and actors
  • Use all your cast and crew – some will need to play bit parts and other roles
  • You may need to set the scene first
  • Cheesy dialogue is a good thing!
  • Keep your scene short!
  • When in doubt, borrow from “real” movies
  • Actors trying for an award should try and stand out from the crowd

Producers will get a Movie Production Form on the day of that they will have to give to the host around the end of the game.
